The Everett intermodal facility opened in February, 2002, and a vast array of transportation choices are provided. In 2003, the station became the northernmost stop for Sound Transit’s commuter rail. The building has transportation services on the lower level and offices, a career development center, two university centers and various transportation agencies on the upper levels.
The Amtrak Cascades are primarily financed through funds made available by the Washington State Department of Transportation and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Amtrak established the Great American Stations Project in 2006 to educate communities on the benefits of redeveloping train stations, offer tools to community leaders to preserve their stations, and provide the appropriate Amtrak resources.
